WELCOME MAY IS MOTORCYCLE SAFETY AWARENESS MONTH. Many organizations across Canada are engaging in promotion of motorcycle safety. Almost ALL focus on finding ways to have other drivers SEE MOTORCYCLISTS!! Here are two Public Service Announcements that drive the point home: CLICK HERE to see a dramatic British PSA from a driver's perspective. CLICK HERE to see a PSA from our friends in Minnesota, from a Rider's perspective.
CALL TO ACTION: Ontario Motorcyclists need your help. The Ontario Ministry of Transportation will open High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes BUT WILL LIMIT MOTORCYCLE ACCESS to those with a passenger. It will be the ONLY jurisdiction in North America to do so. In the US, for example, federal law requires that motorcycles be granted access to HOV lanes FOR SAFETY PURPOSES. We have written the Ministry urging them to allow ANY motorcycle in HOV lanes at ANY time for purposes of safety, efficent people moving, fuel efficiency and reduced emissions. UPDATE: The Minister has replied to our letter, but is not inclined to make any changes. MCC is replying, citing safety data, and urging the Minister to take a step towards enhanced motorcycle safety. Download and sign our petition HERE. Get your family and friends to sign. (They don't need to be riders, they don't need to be 16 or 21, they don't need a license. They just need to be an Ontario citizen and believe that this must change.) MAIL it back to us FULL if you can. We need originals. DO NOT FAX A COPY.
