Billion-dollar plan quietly mapped out to save wilderness

The Globe and Mail has recently published information on a billion dollar Federal Government land acquisition program that has the potential to greatly limit your access to riding areas right here in our own backyard.

"THE GOVERNMENT OF ALBERTA IS BEING PRESSURED TO FORMALIZE THE IRP’s AND CLOSE ALL TRAILS IN THESE AREAS TO MOTORIZED USERS!"

Its a statement we are hearing far to often, not only here in Alberta but across the country.  The AOHVA wants to encourage you, the off-highway vehicle user, to do you part to ensure these areas stay open not only for our enjoyment, but for the enjoyment of future generations as well.

The AOHVA is encouraging you to participate in the following land use issues:

Do your part and get involved.  What can you do?

  1. Keep yourself informed about current Alberta Government Access Management Reviews. This process requires your input.

  2. Contact as many people as possible to alert them to action alerts posted on this site and the need for their participation. You can direct them to the AOHVA web page for more details.

  3. WRITE LETTERS!  Write to Ralph Klein, your MLA and Members of the Legislative Assembly.

  • Remind them that "Responsible riding of an OHV on designated, well signed and mapped, shared trails helps the environment and community tourism."

  • Tell them what the areas mean to you and your family.

  • Tell them how unacceptable the loss of access is

  1. Support your local OHV Clubs and the AOHVA.  Click here for an AOHVA membership form.

  2. Stay in touch.  Check back often and keep up to date with the activities of the AOHVA and your local club.

Letter writing has been effective in the past but the weight of you walking in with this document to your MLA and speaking to him personally is incredible.  When this topic is raised at the Legislature and your MLA has not heard from his constituents, he will assume there is not a problem.  He must speak positively at that time and it's up to all of us to ensure this happens.

You can access a list of Alberta Government Legislative Members here.  This list has been provided by the A.S.A.

YOUR PARTICIPATION IS CRITICAL! Without it you, the motorized vehicle user, OHV access will continue to be lost now and in the future.  Do not assume the other guy will take care of this for you…this issue effects YOU!

For more information on how you can get involved please contact the AOHVA.
