Alberta Recreation Corridors
Legislation Review Update
The Alberta government is currently
studying the potential of creating new legislation
making it easier to create trails throughout the
province of Alberta. Subjects they are looking at
include liability of the trail operator,
enforcement, registration, and the effects of a
trail to the adjacent landowners. The idea is that
if this legislation is enabled, municipalities,
etc., will have less red tape to deal with, and not
as many departments will have to get involved in
each little stretch of trail.
An initial report has been completed
and the Minister of Alberta Community Development,
Gene Zwozdesky, is seeking input from Albertans on
the
Alberta Recreation Corridors Legislative
Review – Report to the Minister of Community
Development.

information check out The Government of Alberta's
Recreation Corridors
web site.
At this web site is the News Release describing
the initiative.
Take note that many of the major issues are
different than what we encountered in the Bighorn
review. Many of the corridors that are being
considered travel through populated rural Alberta.
The issues being raised involve noise, trespassing,
loss of privacy, vandalism and liability. When
filling out the workbooks and writing letters
consider these issues that face the folks that own
land and live adjacent to these corridors.
Our image as motorized recreationist is being put
to the test. Let the rest of Alberta know we are
just normal folks like themselves.
